Prologue Daniel's POV I went on with my life, not expecting even a tiny bit of happiness to find me, I was just living under the dark side of life. Killing, hunting monsters. No happiness, not even love. Nothing could reach my frozen soul. That is, if I had a soul.

Abey looked down at her Grandfather. The Chief wandered close by. “This is a bad omen, you must leave. You are plagued by Shadows, scat, scat.” he hissed at her.

The man in the trunk woke up and turned into a wolf before we got out of the cabin. I pulled out my blade, and Jacob stood ready for the attack. The wolf glowed at us, considering its next move. But someone shot a dart at it, and it fell.

“Hahaha” Who is that? Fuck I know that it was the owner of this fucking shadow. “Show yourselves you freak! Fight like a true fighter! Not a pussy that was hiding through the shadow!” I shout in frustration. Slowly... The shadow disappeared and his true form appeared. A black man who has a big body and is wearing a black hood. He is grinning like a demon. And murmur. “Your dead hunter” What kind of creature was that?

Pain shot through every part of her body. The bond severing had been violent. Traumatic. It felt like someone had reached inside her chest and ripped out part of her soul. Because that's exactly what they'd done. Without a pack bond, she was vulnerable. Weak. Powerless. Just another rogue wolf that any pack could kill on sight. That any rogue could attack without consequences. That the world could swallow up without anyone caring or noticing. Lyra forced herself to stand. Her legs shook. Her vision blurred. Black spots danced at the edges. But she stayed upright through sheer stubbornness.

The Shadow wolves seemed to avoid her, a natural perimeter forming around her violet grey form as if the air itself was too dense for them to penetrate. "Mommy!" Maya’s voice screamed in my mind, but it wasn't a cry for help. It was a warning. "The ridge! The Father of the Shadows is coming!" I looked up just as the sky turned a bruised, angry purple. The obsidian peak of the mountain, which had been silent since the Bloom, suddenly groaned. A figure emerged from the very top of the ridge, draped in a shroud of matted black fur that looked like it was made of solid smoke. He was larger than Kaelen, his eyes not red, but a flat, lightless black that seemed to absorb the moon’s glow.

A middle-ranked warrior, older than her by a few years, broad-shouldered and scarred from a dozen training-field scuffles. He’d been one of the first to laugh when she’d tripped with a tray. One of the last to mock when she’d left, his gaze unreadable. Now, his eyes shone the same pale, dead silver as the puppet-sentry’s. He staggered to his paws, movements slow and stiff. Shadow clung to his fur like oil, dripping from his shoulders in tendrils that tried to rise back toward the wall. Luna’s fingers dug into the frozen earth.

"The wards… they flicker. Weakening. He tears the fabric of the city's security." The sentient Shadow rippled, its voice a chilling whisper that seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once. "The darkness… it stretches. It hungers. It is drawn to him as a moth to a flame." A sly Kitsune, Ren of the Ten Tails, his golden eyes gleaming with intelligence and a hint of amusement, spoke with a hint of sarcastic glee. "Well, isn’t this just peachy? I was just getting comfortable with my new sake collection." Several older members shot him withering glances. Sake collections were hardly the priority when the world was about to end.

Hunter said. "We don't know who Silvia is," The other guy croaked out and Hunter's eyes darkened. Putting his phone aside. He barked at his men who scurried inside. "Strip them," Hunter ordered and their faces paled. His men did as told and within seconds both the guys stood there butt naked with their hands tied behind their backs. "One of you shift," Hunter said looking at one of his men who shifted quickly into his wolf form. "I want you to f*ck that guy," Hunter said pointing at the f*cker who looked as if his soul left his body.
