“Mummy, look!” Her words pierced through my haze, and I spun around sharply, my heart leaping. The sight that greeted me sent a chill down my spine. Two black cars with their headlights glaring like eyes raced down the street toward us. The people inside, were like dark silhouettes against the glowing beams, looked dangerous hard faces, sunglasses reflecting the streetlights, and an air of menace about them that made my skin crawl. I gasped, instinctively grabbing Lily and yanking Ethan by the arm.

Not that it matters, since the small area means the shadow can’t get away. Kian’s teeth latch onto the shadow being, and he yanks, attempting to tear it away from Amora. The shadow hisses, wriggling in his grasp and squeezing tighter. A small, feeble squeak comes from Amora’s throat—the only sound she can make. Fury sends a wave of shadow smoke coming off my pitch black fur, and I lunge for the tendrils around her body. Snarls fill the air as Frost and Kian attack the shadow’s undulating form. I tear through the tendril wrapped around Amora’s neck, nicking her skin in the process, but the shadow being releases her with a startled, eerie scream.

“Don’t worry. Just the hangover is worse, but it won’t hurt him. A little like bee stung, maybe.” We marched towards the woods, but all I could hear was Everlee’s fast heartbeat. “Everlee, relax. Your heartbeat is obstructing my hearing,” Shadow said. “It would be hard to find him if you’re distressed.” “I’m sorry. I’m just worried about him.” “We all are.” Shadow took a deep breath. “Let me do my mojo.” It made me chuckle. “Go ahead, infant witch. Do your thing.” “Shut up, macho man.” She took a deep breath and shut her eyes. “Wow. I don’t hear anything other than insects and wind. I think your brother is a pathfinder.”

He charged into the fray, tearing through the shadows with a ferocity that made her breath catch. “Sasha!” Jaxon’s voice followed, and she turned to see him running toward her, his eyes glowing with determination. He reached her side, yanking the shadow off her and helping her to her feet. “You’re not alone,” he said, his voice steady despite the chaos. “We’ll get out of this. Together.” Ethan let out a triumphant howl as he finished off the last of the shadows. But the victory was short-lived. The fog thickened again, and the ground beneath them began to tremble.

But when I open them again and look towards where he is, I still see black leather wings and crimson eyes. His fighting is even more impressive than what I’ve seen in Sahara’s gladiator ring. When the shadow aims some kind of power, he flies back, flips, and lunges at what I assume is its head. He flaps his wings, pushing the shadow back and aims his sword over it, cutting through it. He twirls again and piercing the center of the shadow over and over again until the shadow fractures and shatters into a million pieces. As soon as that happens, the fog fades, and the dark monster disappears, leaving the shadows of the true darkness behind.

ARRRRRRRERR "Damn! Shadow step!" Long Chen realized that the monster was flying down towards him and immediately ran as fast as he could. Using shadow steps, Long Chen tried to cover his tracks from the monster. AAARRRRRRRRRRRRR "Damn, a powerful sound wave!" BOOOOMMMMM

Sophie’s POV The sight of the alter ego of Lucas moving toward our son made my blood freeze over. Time seemed to slow as I made my move as well, golden Luna energy exploding from me aiming in a protect. The shadow twin collided with my shield, its black eyes, mirror images of Lucas’s silver ones, flashing with hunger that was as old as anything. Lucas screamed in my arms, his tiny body convulsing as the dark veins spread further, fighting against the pull of his corrupted counterpart.

Arthur sighed for he was wondering himself of this question. Why he, Arthur Adamos, was waiting for the right time to claim his mate, Diana Marchand as if there will be something coming their way to separate them? Perhaps there was an obstacle. Her brother, Xavier, was the Beta of the Shadow Pack and Arthur doesn't want any trouble with him. Xavier can be scary if his sister was in threat. Arthur shook that question away before there was a commotion and a crowd was drawing up as he was approaching the incident. He saw the warriors that were on duty that night before he shifted to his human form before walking into the crime scene.

That’s all it’s ever needed to be. The gunfire keeps going around me but it’s background noise at this point. It always is. We’re getting control of it. I can feel the shift. Then I see him. He’s standing off to the side, separate from the others, and he’s watching. Not fighting, not retreating — watching. There’s a scar running the length of his face, old and thick, and the moment our eyes meet something in my chest goes very still. Andreas. Not here himself, but close enough to make the point.

"Don't listen to the hum. Just listen to the heartbeat next to you." They slipped into the shadows of the North Leg of the Arch, the silver structure vibrating beneath their hands. The "Sonic Labyrinth" opened its mouth to swallow them, but for the first time, the pack wasn't afraid of the dark. They were the ones bringing the light that was going to burn the Hive to the ground.
