Messily, the back of my hands wiped the scorching tears in my eyes, and I tried to locate her. Though I couldn't fully see, a silhouette was standing at the entrance. With so much force I pushed past the sorrow blocking my chest and throat and whispered, “His body was just here.” “And now it's gone to meet Death.” “What?” “Annatoria, the Great Lycan won't be coming back.” Even Lyra wasn't unsusceptible to the sadness tearing me apart. The dungeon was quiet, except for the beat of the crystal heart, which was an unpleasant rhythm. Jace went to the end of the pit. He didn't only pierce the crystal. He concentrated the maximum amount of his celestial shadow-magic into his right fist, forming a sphere of dark, crushing gravity.

Hunter explained. "Need any assistance?" Jackson offered. Hunter smiled. "She kicked you out, didn't she?" "She did," Jackson admitted with a nod. "I've got this. Hakun's spoiled Jade rotten anyway," Hunter replied. Downstairs was a mix of vampires, witches, and wolves, pretty much the usual crowd. Zarek and Aylani, Lucas and Ava, Kayla, Marco, Damian, and Hannah were all there, milling about. Hunter finally made his way down with Jade on his arm, handing her off to Hakun like a prized package.
