Almost everyone one of the attackers was on the ground, looking like they had just stepped into the sun. “Holy shit…” I exclaimed as I looked at the hunter as he put some weapon back under his jacket, turning to look at me. I don’t know if that comment was because hunters have a weapon that powerful or because Diana was right. He is attractive.

A fake smile tugged at my lips as I tried to hide my trembling hands. I pulled my wet hair over my shoulder trying to hide the mark from Vanya and Cassian. My heart pounded heavily against my ribs as I stood frozen in front of them unable to utter a single word. Their death stare locked on me waiting for answers. Hunter turned Murderer. Marked by the very thing I was raised to hunt. Gosh, I'd snap his neck if I could. I'm sure Cassian and Vanya wouldn't understand. Cassian would snitch to my father in a heartbeat. “Because I’ve seen this symbol before. Years ago. When they attacked my old pack.” Silence. I shifted uncomfortably beside him. He knew what I had lost to the hunters. He steadied myself and continued. “This is their mark. They brand their weapons, their traps. It’s how they operate.” I studied the dagger, my expression dark. “We don't have time to celebrate. We need to find them before they strike again.” We continued the journey. Tracking the hunters was harder than anything; they didn’t leave scent trails the same way we did. But they weren’t perfect.

Untreatable once it passed a certain stage. It described the people who used the blade. I turned back to Xavier. "They're called Shadow Hunters," I said. "They're not wolves. They're an old faction, older than most of the packs on this continent. They don't have sides. They hunt whoever they're paid to hunt, and once they mark a target, the target can't hide. The mark makes them trackable through any ward, any border." I kept my voice level. "Your scouts weren't killed by rogues. They were marked. Probably to send you a message."

Colton signaled, and the door of the cage opened, letting that vampire come out who had challenged show Colton his place if he would come out by saying that ‘even dogs considered themselves as a lion in their area. “You’re so dead now.” The vampire hissed. “Trust me, and I had heard that before,” Colton said, looking at him casually. “PAIN” He used his power on Colton, who stood unaffected in front of him. The vampire looked at him in confusion until Colton’s mystical tattoo, known as the hunter's mark, located on their right arm, started appearing at Colton’s wish. This mark was invisible to all save for supernatural hunters or potential hunters until that hunter wanted to appear it or not.

As we sat down on the couch, Marcus took a deep breath and turned to me. "Edna, we've got a problem. Blake's hunters have been spotted in the area. They're looking for us, and they won't stop until they find us," he said, his voice low and urgent. I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead. This was worse than I thought. Blake's hunters were some of the best in the business. They were ruthless, and they never gave up until they got what they wanted. "What are we going to do?" I asked, my voice shaking slightly.

“They can’t—” “They can,” the caretaker said. “And they have.” Dante closed his eyes briefly. Whatever the hunters had done, it hadn’t hurt—not physically. But something cold coiled beneath his skin, a sensation like being watched from the inside. “They didn’t attack,” Dante said slowly. “They… marked.” Aiden’s heart hammered. “Marked how?” Dante opened his eyes. “I don’t know yet,” he admitted. “But it feels like a question waiting for an answer.”
