I looked up. Four shadows—tall, unnatural—emerged from the trees, blades gleaming like moonlight incarnate. They didn’t walk—they glided, silent and deadly. What the hell were they? Fear clawed through me again. I ran. “They don’t like moonlight,” I realized, watching them flinch from its touch. I veered toward open ground, anywhere the moonlight could protect me. But I was fading. My strength bled with every step. Then a voice whispered in my mind.

"Upon their visage, the countenance of the celestial orb, completed by the sacred sigil upon the union with their fated's mark." Thinking about the prophecy makes my skin crawl. Any time I think about ashes, I see my home, burnt to the ground. I hear howls of pain, remembering that they came from me as I held my baby brother's burnt body. Who needs screaming birds when I have already seen the hell that The Darkness hides.

Crash! What was that? Crash. There it is again! The disturbance was coming from the small kitchen at the back of the cottage. Just then, she saw a blur of a dark shadow speeding toward her. Her heart pounded under her ribcage. The shadow ducked around the corner and into the study. It’s as big as a man! Scared but curious, she followed. It was like nothing she’d ever seen before. “Hello?” she croaked, her mouth dry.

“People don’t change what they believe overnight.” Elara smiled, gripping the locket through her tunic. “I know. But we’re not walking it alone anymore.” And as they began the long journey back down the mountain, toward a world that was finally starting to heal, she knew one thing for certain: the shadow would never be beside the moon again as something feared. It would be there, as it always should have been equal, steady, and home.

And her wolf, Luna, did you know that is her name, is directly touched by the Moon Goddess. Born of shadow and moonlight. The prophecy describes Aria perfectly.”

And then I saw it. At first, just a small glow a spot in the air. Then another. Tiny lights flying, dancing in the air. Fireflies. My heart fluttered. There were hundreds of them, lighting the dark night into a magical one. I looked up only to realize we were at a small beach where the ocean water was glimmering in the dark night. The liquid shimmered under the moonlight, glowing with a strange, soft blue. I leaned forward, eyes wide. A glowing, sparkling, dreamlike ocean surrounded by fireflies, whispering under the moon.

“Explain.” Melody ran both hands through her hair and let out a shaky, disbelieving laugh. “I’ve only seen it once in a book,” she said. “Like, old-book. Old-old. Before packs started pretending we don’t remember the old things. They called it ‘star-sighted.’ Wolves born at blood-oath moments. Wolves born under direct claim.” She swallowed. “The Moon marked her.” Jessica covered her mouth with both hands, shoulders shaking. Jimmy whispered, “Holy shit.”

“She used the Shadow to bring the North here! She is a monster, like her mother! The laws of the Eclipse say any Shadow-blood must be purged for the safety of the soul!” The warriors hesitated. They looked at the bodies on the ground. Then at the black mist curling around my boots. I saw fear creeping back into their eyes. They didn’t know if they should kneel to me or kill me. “Silence, Mother!” Kairos roared, fury turning toward the Council. But I didn’t need him. I stepped forward. The shadows didn’t flicker this time. They burst out. Darkness rushed from my feet, swallowing the wet stone like it was nothing. It climbed the Great Hall walls, stretching toward the balcony like giant hands

“You could end her struggle. End your father. End the academy. End the desperation of the future wolves.” Zara stepped in front of me. “Stop talking to him.” The shadow laughed softly. “You broke the loop,” it told her. “You freed what was trapped beneath their cycles. I am not destruction.” Its gaze burned into both of us. “I am consequence.” The Moon Goddess moved then, finally stepping between us and the void. “This was never meant to surface,” he said. “And yet here I am,” the shadow replied. The silver city beneath us shattered completely. We were no longer standing on stone but suspended in fractured space. Pieces of timelines floated around us like broken glass.
