Duke yelled as he and Gray grabbed Falco as they headed towards the shore. “How the hell do we keep a bloodlust shark?” Vie says. “Like this.” Jack raised his bo and threw it like a spear towards the bull shark. It hit the predators eyes making it stop in its tracks. Good news is that it stopped chasing Falco and the others. The bad news is that it was now looking at us with a build-up of anger as its eyes bled. The new scent of blood drove the other sharks crazy that Byron was starting to struggle. “You guys have to leave!” He mouthed at us just before the current stopped and all the other sharks were now free.

She had her arrow ready, this time her eyes search the water as if seeing through the blue veil. “Where did it go?” Ikedi asked. His sword rested on his hands now, blazing with the light of the falling sun. “There,” Ada pointed as the fin came back to the surface, in-between the two canoe. Chira let three arrows fly, but neither of them seemed to find their mark as they fell harmless on the surface of the water. It must have angered the shark, because its turbulent entourage, reverse and aimed for Chira again. “We need to help them,” Ada shouted.

“You can’t touch him! The Human’s mine! Mine!” Ceto flicked her fingers at Concord. He’d know what to do with the troublemaker. She turned then so Michael wouldn’t see Concord subdue the shark for transport to her dungeon. She circled her finger in the water, creating the funnel that would send the shark and the jellyfishes back to her home. They all disappeared with a soft sucking sound. “Where’s Mr. Shark going?” Michael asked, his eyes still closed as an obedient child’s should be. “He’ll be joining us in the castle, but we’ll go there a different way.”

He's sobbing, gasping, his hands clawing at my shirt like I might disappear if he doesn't hold on tight enough. And then the sharks tear into them. The water turns red so quickly that it's almost impossible to process. Yosef screams, and Kori holds him closer, shielding him with his own body even as the predators rip him apart. It lasts maybe thirty seconds—just long enough for everyone watching to understand that there's no escape, no miracle, no last-second redemption. Just blood and water and the terrible knowledge that sometimes love isn't enough to save anyone. When it's over, there's nothing left but the sharks diving deeper into the water, satisfied.
