The projectile struck the First Omega square in her silver-gray heart-aperture. The room turned a blinding, airless white. I felt the Shared Heat through the link detonate as the Watcher's mercury form began to boil. Her geometry unraveled, her screams turning into a digital static that was swallowed by the roar of the mountain. I sat on the throne, my stone frame vibrating as the First Omega evaporated into a cloud of silver soot. The pressure in the room shifted violently, the vacuum of her death pulling the Ash Rain inside. Leo fell back, the rusted rifle exploding in a shower of sparks. He hit the obsidian floor, his gold skin fading to a deathly, translucent white.

Her eyes stared at nothing. At everything. At me.

I was on my feet before the dust even began to settle. Freya staggered, taking one step, then two, and then her wolf shook, half-shifted, and then pulled back. She dropped to one knee with her hand on the sand. Her face was tight with effort. She was fighting it, whatever it was, as she tried to stay up. Omega-bane. That's what it was. A substance that suppressed Omegas specifically, weakened the connection to their wolf side, and made shifting nearly impossible. It was extremely illegal and very hard to get.

I remembered how he stood in front of me, how he let out this roar to claim me in front of everyone, and how everything went dark after that. My body is still shaking from what happened. I got out of bed. Swung my legs over the side. My knees felt really weak, like they were made of water. I had to keep going. I had to get out of there. If people found out that I am an Omega, my career with the Winter Wolves would be over. If the league found out that I lied about being a Beta, I would be in trouble.
