The world outside the police station felt muted, like someone had lowered the volume on reality. Anna walked blindly, her steps unsure, her body heavy with everything that had happened.
But nothing hurt as much as betrayal. Not just by Rochester, but by the system that should have protected her. She kept walking. She didn't remember passing the market.
