She pressed the call button, but the call did not even beep once before it dropped. She stared at the blank screen for a few seconds, feeling the emptiness that those few unspoken words left. With a heavy sigh, she hugged the device to her chest, as if she could find some comfort there. Her mind began to spin around the lies she herself had created, and the question that haunted her: how did everything get so out of control? The doors to the apartment opened, and Blair was greeted by a deathly silence. Darkness filled every corner of the empty space, and the cold that seemed to emanate from the walls was the only solace for the pain she carried inside her.

“Who am I?” The words lodged in my chest. Before I could respond, she let out a shaky breath, her fingers trembling against the sheets. “I can’t remember anything. It’s all blank. Like fog.” I stepped closer instinctively. “Hey, hey,” I said softly, though my own heartbeat thundered in my ears. “It’s okay. Don’t push it. Just breathe.” She pressed both palms to her temples. “It hurts when I try,” she whispered. “My head—God, it hurts.”
