She Reads Romance Novels & Stories

She caught herself smiling the more she thought about Xavier sitting on the reading chair and a romance novel placed under the antique lamp. So he loved romance. Yet he was so terrible at it! Is he though? She asked herself again as she picked an old book with an eye-catching title. She could tell the book was at least sixty to seventy years old but well preserved. It only had a title on it but Halle could tell it would be good. She sat down on the reading table and even though she didn’t need the lamp, she turned it on, a relaxed smile on her face as she began to read, lost in the world that the book pulled her into.

His throat choked with emotions. His eyes moved to her. He had to do something. This woman was changing him, indeed. Elena’s POV She was frustrated. He was working and she was just roaming around his house like a zombie. She walked back again to the hall and picked a book from the shelf. She chose her favorite “Romeo and Juliet” and started reading. She had been in the play when she was 15 but she had never read the book. She had always wanted a man who would love her like crazy. Not that she wanted him to die like Romeo but at least love her as passionately as him.

I was always too eager to speak to her. "You don't seem like the romantic type to me." I muttered. "What?" She must have clearly heard me, but just didn't think I would say that to her. "You're reading a super romance harlequin novel." I gave a small smile. She looked at me pointedly and just rolled her eyes, before looking back at the book in her hand. At first, I thought she was going to ignore me as usual, but she didn't. I had been excited she was responding to me, until I heard what she said.

Curious if she'd admit to reading the trashy historical romance I left mixed in the pile. After we demolished the pot of gumbo and rice she had cooked on the stove and things were cleaned up she settled on the couch and Wyatt left to make those territorial rounds he did each evening I plopped next to her on the couch moving her feet across my lap. And so we read and she told me about the books she had read steering clear of the romance now at the bottom of the pile. She passed me a science fiction novel she thought I'd like and I got to reading it.

The entire day was torture for me not to kiss her. "What?" I chuckle. "Business non-fiction, as expected from you," she wriggles her face. "I mean how can you not yawn while reading non-fiction? Have you ever tried fiction? Especially romance" "No. I don't like reading romance" "I can't believe you," she scoffs. "Why? Am I too good at it practically?" I playfully smile and drift closer to her as she quivers, peeking around. "Chris, don't get started over here. We're in a library," she reminds me.
