She merely underlined a line in her notebook, the faintest smirk ghosting her lips.
“Hey,” he said, affronted and delighted all at once. “That’s retaliation.”
“That’s recycling,” she replied, deadpan. “Reduce, reuse, retaliate.”
He stared at her, then laughed. Not performative. Not loud. Just honest. “Okay. Point to you. But I’m still telling HR. Oh wait, we don’t have HR.”
Something shifted then. Not loudly. Not visibly. But the air changed shape.
Nao drifted closer under the pretense of asking about routing. He crouched beside her chair, respectful of her space, and pointed at the screen. “If we move this set earlier, does it affect load-in?”
