Holly shakes her head slightly. “It’s not really a trick,” she says calmly. “You just have to be careful about the information you use. People talking about what happened to them or someone they know.” She pauses for a moment. “But most of those stories are not proven. Very little of it has been properly recorded as fact.”

It was as if a part of me was fading, dissolving bit by bit. Still, avoiding shifting wasn’t an option.
