"Well, there was this one time when I was about five years old. I wanted to impress this girl, so I tried to ride my bike without training wheels... And it ended badly." "What happened?" I asked. "I ended up crashing and scraping my knee on the ground," Lucas cringed. "I still have a scar from it."

" I looked up as he ended his sentence. In response, I could only shrug. He watched me for a second before moving onto his next question with a small smile. Most of his questions were related to my personal hobbies and interests, before he started dwelling into his life in UK. His job, his friends, family. How he grew up. His likes and dislikes. I responded adequately to his every inquiry. All in all, he seemed like a nice guy. A guy that I can imagine spending the rest of my life peacefully with. Unlike someone else. There was one solitary, big book on a low table between them. "The title of the tale is The Binding of Autumn," he began, his voice an entrancing whisper just in harmony with the shriek of the fire. “It's the tale of a harvest god who offers a mortal woman a choice: one night of absolute freedom for one year of unimaginable riches for her people." He didn't move as his eyes met hers. "The consent is the matter at hand. It must be freely bestowed, not coerced, and whispered three times into the skin of his throat." “Do you have any idea what sort of story you're going to be reading me tonight?”

He grabbed the hem of his shirt and pulled it off over his head, revealing a hairy chest, and tossed it onto the couch behind him. The room erupted in cheers and claps, like it was the funniest thing they’d seen all night, and I felt my breath catch in my throat as I watched. It didn’t stop there. The next hand went down, and another guy had to peel off his pants, standing there in his boxers while the group razzed him about his skinny legs.

“You sneaked in and were watching us all the time.” “No I wasn’t,” I lied. “Well, only for the past fifteen minutes, maybe. I did ring a big cow bell to get your attention,” I joked, “but for some reason you two girls were too busy doing something for a mere male to interrupt.” “Well Ryder, for your information we were not making love, we were… we were…” “We were... Bradley Fry, my CEO husband, loves bringing his friends home for meals the most. He claims that this makes them feel like an actual family. As they drink in the feast I've whipped up for everyone, one of Bradley's friends comments smilingly, "I knew that you were a virtuous one, Emily! Now this is how the legitimate wife should act!" My expression doesn't falter as I ask in a half-joking manner, "Oh? Does Bradley have a spoiled and pampered mistress by his side, then?" His friends are stunned by my question.
