“Would you tell me a story? My friend Dustin says his mom and dad tell him stories every night, but no one will tell me a story.” My heart melted hearing his request, and I smiled. “Of course, Liam. And you are in luck. I know so many stories.” I picked him up in my arms. “Really?” he said excitedly, burying his head in my neck, making me sigh in content. “Yay.” I tucked him into his bed. I began weaving a tale about a courageous knight who embarked on an epic adventure to save a kingdom from a fearsome dragon. Liam’s eyelids grew heavy as he listened to the tale, and soon he was fast asleep.

It has been four days since I and a group of five explorers got lost in this dreadful jungle, on day one we have already lost three explorers to nature's cruel traits, the first dying from a poison from a venomous snake, the second, the dumbest creature on two legs I had ever seen regrettably , died after being stung by bees “why would you poke a bee hive knowing fully well you are allergic to bee stings”I cussed to myself and finally the third which we just watched horrifically get eaten by crocodiles.

He gestured toward the narrow aisle between fiction and children’s books. “Storage wasted on that back room. And don’t get me started on the courtyard out back. Prime square footage doing nothing but growing weeds.” Before she could fire back, the kids started filing in for storytime, backpacks thumping as they dropped onto the colorful rug. Elena shot him a warning look and moved to the front. She picked up *The Adventures of Benny the Bookworm*, her voice shifting into the warm, animated tone she used for the little ones.

Besides getting out of the city, as small as it was, was still a treat. We had a great time swimming, playing and hiking, our hard, youthful bodies tanning in the warmth of the sun. Sitting around the campfire that evening we told jokes and cuddled each other against the cool night air, telling jokes and roasting marshmallows. When it came time to go to bed the four of us had to share one small tent, crowded but cozy. Somehow, I ended up in the middle between Marie and Danny's girlfriend, Deanna. After a bit of talk and laughter we turned out the lantern and drifted off to a peaceful sleep.
