As I made my way into the elevator, my mouth ran dry. But I knew that it was the right thing to do. My mother deserved to be loved and cared for by me. I shift slightly on his thigh, turning just enough to face him more fully. My fingers rest lightly against his arm, grounding myself before I begin. "My mother..." I start, then pause briefly as I gather the small fragments of a story I have carried for far too long. "She was not always a member of Nighbane Pack. She was...taken."
