Chapter 4 Ana's pov “My love, I'm sorry, but do you mind explaining everything to me again?” My Mom asked me; each word that passed through her lips did so with intentional efforts, so much so that it made my heart basically ache to watch my once energetic mother struggle with something so basic as speech. In the past weeks, I had mastered the art of crafting believable stories. I told her that I have been working for a rich old lady who was in dire need of a caretaker.

At least, from what I could remember, we never had any physical contact. Even so, Mom didn't spare me. When I was seven, I had just returned home after walking three miles when Mom slapped me across the face. The reason? She had found my essay in my composition book titled "My Father". "You're already learning such filthy things at such a young age! Who taught you this?" Mom shouted, waving the book in my face. Failing to understand what she meant, I could only desperately search for my dad in the room. But all that awaited me was a beating.

Adora found her voice, “You haven’t completed your story. Who was the man and who is the child? What happened to them?” Mother waved Adora off, “It does not matter who they were. All that matters is that you find your happiness. You are all my children and I do concern myself with your welfare. I will always care, Adora. Now leave me please. I need time to myself to collect my thoughts and emotions.” Mother turned away from Adora. Adora knew that Mother was sone telling her story, and what a story it was. Something she could never share with anyone. She left Mother’s presence and her mind went to Gabriel. She had to find him before it was too late.
