Once there was a family, a family of great power and wealth. Because that family was from the very beginning of time, their powers were a mystery and many would say that they were the direct offsprings of the Moon Goddess. Do you know who they were?”

tarnish my innocence, and I am not allowed to do that. My family was not always rich. My father was a poor coppersmith when he met my mother, and according to what I was told, they fell in love with each other, married, and lived happily, but not for long. My mother kept giving birth to children – she had eight children before me, and there was just no money to take proper care of them. Things got worse and even more worse for my family, until – just like in the fairytale stories, they met a witch. The witch gave them the key to riches, and I was that key.

Questions like this were inevitable as our children grew, and it felt like the perfect opportunity to share pieces of our past. “Well,” I began, leaning forward a little, “every family has a story, Luca. Some parts are happy, some are sad, and some are full of courage. Ours is a little bit of all three.” Emilia’s head shot up immediately, her dark eyes sparkling with curiosity. “Tell us! Tell us the stories,” she demanded, bouncing on her knees. Noah chuckled, shaking his head. “You two are insatiable,” he teased, giving her nose a gentle tap. “But okay, we’ll tell you. And she mentioned something, almost in passing, that I don’t think she realised mattered. She said her family always had a strange old family story, passed down quietly, about a girl who was supposedly raised by a kind member of staff at a grand house, generations ago, before everything in the family fell apart.” Cloe felt the air go very still. “Did she say a name,” she asked carefully.

The people who fight for you when you can’t fight for yourself. The people who love you through your worst moments and still look at you like you are worth saving. This story was about werewolves, prophecies, fire, magic, and war. But more than that, it was about family. It was about finding strength through pain.

No inappropriate implications, no suggestive subtext, no messy drama—only an ordinary family encountering trouble, solving it rationally, protecting each other, and living well. This is the most real, decent, and precious life.
