She heard their screams echoing through the night like a haunting melody. And then she saw herself, standing at the center of it all, her hands bathed in a flickering light as she fought desperately to defend them. The memories came rushing back with an intensity that left Aqua reeling, her breath catching in her throat. She staggered backward, overwhelmed by the weight of the truth. "No, it can't be," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion.

The timid girls screamed, and the people in the living room fell into a panic instantly. Many stood up instinctively, while some squatted down instead. It was chaotic. Natalie Wheeler felt goosebumps all over her body. There was something strange about the ship's departure and the sudden power loss. The truth crashed down on me. It wasn't just one crazy person. It was an outbreak. A quarantine. We were trapped.

Every time we pass a streetlamp, the light flickers across Clayton’s face, showing a man who looks like he’s driving toward his own execution. I stare out the window, watching the silhouettes of the ironwood trees. Suddenly, the "static" in my head begins to clear. It’s not a slow fade; it’s like a curtain being ripped open.

But Peanut nodded anyway. Then the lighthouse appeared again through the rain. Closer now. Much closer. Its dark shape stood against the storm. Waiting. Then Walter pointed. "There!" Everyone looked. A light. Inside the lighthouse. A real light. Moving. Someone was there. God. Someone was waiting. Fair. Please let them be friendly. Reasonable honestly. Then another scream echoed across the island. Closer this time. Much closer. The thing was gaining on them. Then Ava looked back.
