Only Milo squirming in my other arm brought me back to reality. Adrian glanced over my head. “What is it, Sybil?” I whirled around. Sybil hovered in the doorway, wringing her hands and looking anywhere but at me. She must have caught us kissing, and even though we hadn’t done anything indecent or forbidden, considering that we were married, acute embarrassment washed over me. “The children are asleep, and I cleaned up. Is there anything else you need from me?” “No, you can go.” His clipped voice rubbed me the wrong way. Even if Sybil was working for him, that didn’t mean he had to sound like a drill sergeant. Sybil nodded and with a fleeting smile at me, she left.

Chapter 17 “Geez Arabella, its been 3 days already. Time to wake up.” Sybil whispered. She sat crossed legged on a natural stone ledge that ran along one wall of the cave. Sybil was nervous; Arabella hadn’t woken once from the dream state she was in. Sybil tried to be patient, after all, Arabella was suppose to sleep while the memory of love faded. Still, Sybil was nervous. She had the awful feeling that she did something wrong.

Finally, the message arrived. “Dear valued customer, hello. Your Succubus is not malfunctioning, nor is he ill. He is simply extremely hungry and needs you. Not food, but you. Adeline’s pov I tried not to cry again. This was something my tear ducts were used to, it was almost a routine to watch it dry up and so I sucked in the tears and thought happy thoughts. Thoughts that comprised of the good old earlier days. Looking back to the sequence of events which brought me to that house of brooding mystery, of sinister undercurrents and disturbing echoes. I sat on a wooden bench I had found as I became lost in thought all alone in the darkness.

Slowly, her legs trembled and before she could fall, Hevian was quick to hold her up. “Let’s not assume until we see their bodies. They could be well somewhere.” He tried to comfort her somehow, but Una pushed him hard. “Those were all members of the Sabre Pack! I saw them. How can they be so cruel?” Hevian’s jaw clenched. “I assure you; I’ll make them pay.”
