Is this the end of everything she held onto? A heavy silence hangs over her as she stares at him, as he laughs with the woman by his side, as he smiles and moves without a single glance in her direction. Her heart breaks, over and over, the pieces falling apart with each passing second, each breath, each stolen glance she risks. Suddenly, the hum of conversation fades, replaced by the echo of footsteps. A man steps onto the stage, gripping a microphone, his voice slicing through the stillness like a blade. “Welcome to today’s auction.”

He chuckled as he tilted his head. “Really?” “Sinus.” She said as the man nodded. There was silence as she forgot to click the ground floor button. “Sinus might be really bad.” He said as she nodded an agreement. She’s kind of an awkward person. “So, what’s your drug?” he asked. “Vics,” She answered. “Or I’ll go with anything minty.”

Leaving only one thing in its place. Silence.

He blushed as he was congratulated. One spectator from afar didn't like any of it. "Fast. Ingenious. Tsk. But he's still deaf. He's useless."

a voice called, distant but familiar. I didn’t have the strength to respond. My eyes fluttered shut as the darkness took over. Finally, silence.

"There's nothing," he replied. "Alicia, has someone been talking to you? Did they lead you to a misunderstanding?" Charles kept his cool, but his right hand drifted to his leg, a dead giveaway that he was fibbing. He probably did not even notice he did it every time he lied. The weight that had been crushing my heart finally hit the ground with a thud. "What's going on here?" Emily appeared at the top of the stairs, her eyes darting between Charles and me, full of suspicion. The sight of the perfume in Charles's grip made her face go pale.

The specific silence of something that has finally, fully, stopped. And then Nothing.

And then… Silence. Complete and absolute.
