The prisoner's eyes darted nervously, his body trembling. He tried to speak, but only a strangled whimper of apologies escaped his lips. I leaned closer, my breath ghosting across his cheek. The scent of fear mingled with the metallic tang of blood, a sickeningly familiar perfume. "I'm not interested in pleas," I hissed, my voice a chilling whisper. "I'm interested in the truth. And you will tell me the truth, or I will make you, and I don't have mercy, DeMarco." I growled out.

I smiled as we both held hands. "I know, anyway, I'm focused on the road. Rest for now, it looks like we're still far away." He resigned and I followed what he said. Instead, I felt like prey on the altar. High Priest Nikolai stood above me, tall and merciless in his black robes trimmed with silver. His dark hair fell across his forehead, and those piercing eyes pinned me in place. Behind him, the inner circle watched in heavy silence — Brothers Elias, Thorne, and Caius. The men who had whispered promises of belonging when they found me lost and searching. “Vivienne,” Nikolai said, his voice low and rough, carrying through the ancient chamber like smoke. “You came seeking truth. My parents stormed in, their faces were red with rage. Behind them were Kyle’s parents; their eyes were cold. And then the others: men and women in black robes, collars glinting, rosaries hanging. A group I never expected. Bishop Callahan. Mother Superior. Monsignor Rivera. And two other priests whose faces I knew from years of services. A holy firing squad.
