The way he said my name made me want to strip for him and crash down on my knees, willing and ready to do whatever he asked. I hated to be called Cameron-it was formal and stuffy, and the only people in my life who used it were my co-workers and telemarketers. But from his lips, it was smooth and melodic-a song from the siren's lips that beckoned me, threatening to drown me in the turbulent sea. I fanaticized hearing him utter those three syllables, my name, as he came in my mouth.

I asked Lena, hoping she could explain this all to me, since she was raised with the sirens, and I wasn’t. “When a siren dies, their soul returns to the sea. Our mother is trying to tell us that she is here for us and that she will always be here, even though she can’t physically be here.” Lena explains it to me, and I remember back to all the times that I heard the song. But it didn’t explain why I almost drowned each time. “When you hear the song, do you want to go to it, like it is calling for you?” I asked Lena, hoping I wasn’t the only one of us that almost drowned from it.

"Just… sad. Fishermen talk about a 'weeping fog' that rolls in some nights. They say if you listen closely, you can hear a woman singing in it. A lullaby. But it sounds… broken. It makes the fish scarce and gives everyone bad dreams. They call her the 'Siren of the Sorrows.' Most people just avoid that part of the coast now." The sad echo in Liora’s mind suddenly had a source. A name. A story. "The Siren of the Sorrows," she repeated softly. That night, the dream came. It was not Corin, and it was not the Remnant. It was the woman. She stood on a misty shore, her form made of sea foam and twilight. She was beautiful, but her face was etched with a grief so profound it was a physical weight.

"Look what you've done! You've hurt her hand! How could you be so careless?" He shoved me aside and rushed out with Elara to find a doctor. The sirens lured sailors to their doom with their songs." But as the melody grew stronger, the guardians found it harder to resist its allure. Their steps became sluggish, their thoughts foggy. Suddenly, a piercing scream cut through the music. It was Nocturna, who had used a shard of magic to shield herself from the song's effects. "Snap out of it!" she shouted, her voice echoing with power.

She would have been embarrassed if she wasn't so focused on Raziel. But after a while of trying, she didn't find him. She opened her eyes again to find Lorissa staring at her. The siren already knew that her plan to find her husband didn't work. "The siren song is the most difficult to learn. It needs more focus than the one needed for compulsion. It would even take a toll on your body as you are a first timer. Maybe you should rest a little." Lorissa suggested, but Luciana stubbornly insisted in continuing.

The cicadas sing to the full moon as I stir, unable to completely fall asleep. I’d forgotten how beautifully annoying these things were. Even with jet lag falling asleep is difficult. It was exactly how I imagined a Siren would sound like. More voices began blending in with hers, creating a harmonizing melody. I too joined in on the harmonizing and the lyrics effortlessly rolled off my tongue. I wasn't surprised at this point that I was singing a song that I had never heard before.

Havermouth, Present Time The Sirens’ song held Sigrid frozen in fascination as they focused their power on Leighton. She had not realized just how beautiful a sound could be. It seemed to reach into her very soul, to every fiber of her being. She could almost see the sound, the sparkle of sun on pure azure water, the dart of silver-scaled fish through the darkness, the blossoming of vividly bright ocean flowers. Tears gathered in her eyes, and she reached out gripping on to Greg and Dan’s forearms, wanting to share the elation of the experience with them.
