Xander asked, lifting the makeshift reader from beneath a pile of onion skins.
She shook her head. “I’ll do it slow. See if it feels right.”
He watched her, watched the tension brew along her knuckles as she threaded the film between her fingers, narwhal-quick. Then she smiled, small and sideways. “It’s a location. Just coordinates, but I know the structure. It's from my sister.”
Both of them sat with that a moment. It was the first time she’d said anything about having a sister.
“She’s across the river,” Carolina went on, clamping down the tremor in her voice. “West of the rail line, deep in old suburbia. No way she sent this unless it was—”
