ILANA. The Blood Moon Festival came five days too early. On the third evening, the moon bathed its eerie, crimson glow over the Nightshade Pack. This was an event rarely experienced and considered by the pack to be a sign from the Moon Goddess, hastening the fate of two destined mates. The pack was in an uproar of joyful frenzy. The whole of the pack square hummed with excitement, as though even the air vibrated in anticipation. I faltered at the door to Rana's small cabin and brushed off invisible lint from the pale blue dress that Rana had lent me for tonight. "Rana, are you sure about this?" I asked, trying to keep the nerves from edging my voice.

Death draws me towards it like we have been attached with an unbreakable string. Maybe it's just a superpower in which I get the last chance to save the person in front of me or maybe it’s a curse. Particularly a Crimson curse, as I like to call it. Through the years the number of deaths I have seen is greater than my age. You would think that death doesn't affect me anymore. I look at his lackeys, whose legs are rooted to the floor, looking at me like they have seen a ghost. Well, not a ghost, a vampire to be honest. Well, seeing the vampire crown prince is a one-time affair after all. I smirk, and the next moment, they join their leader, Alan, on the cold floor.

Magic. The crimson fluid in the bottle began to move, making its way out of the bottle, while Krys' hands danced skillfully in the air, as her chanting grew fiercer and sharper, holding much intensity and vigor. The crimson fluid in the air began to grow a bright shade of red as my sister kept on chanting. In an instant, the red light engulfed the crimson fluid and burned brighter. In an instant, it exploded in the air, turning into tiny specks of red dust.

The massive yellow arm of the crane shuddered, then began to swing slowly toward the waiting freighter. "There," I said, pointing to the screen. "The 'revolt' is currently being bypassed by a girl in a library." Silas stood up, his chair scraping the floor. He walked over to the laptop, his face inches from the screen. He watched the crane move, his expression unreadable. He looked at the code scrolling in the corner—the "Ghost" layer I had used to mask the heat signatures of the containers. "You're making them obsolete," Silas whispered, his voice devoid of its usual mockery. "The men. The traditions. The very grit of the street. You're turning a blood-feud into a math problem."

She falls to the floor at my feet and begins to whimper as if I hurt her, but I didn’t even touch her. Crouching down, I pet Crimson on the head. “What’s wrong, girl?” I ask as she nuzzles my hand. “Can you transform back to Wren?” Crimson shakes her head no. “Is it because you don’t know how?” Her head shakes yes. “Okay, I’ll help you. Wren, if you can hear me, all you have to do is picture your human form. Your body will do the rest.” I inform her. Within a few minutes, I watch Crimson transform back into a naked Wren, who is in tears. I Pull her to me, wondering what the fuck caused her to react like this. “Tell me it’s not true.” Wren attempts to demand as she tries to push away from me.
