The pale, dead skin, red eyes that looked like it had never embraced sleep for at least a thousand years now, and that creepy, endless grin he keeps throwing at me makes my whole body shudder in fear. I reek of it, and the nightcrawler more than anyone else could fucking tell as his grin went impossibly wider, stretching to his sharp-edged ears. What a creep. "Fucking wear your seatbelt, Ava!" I snap my wide eyes at Hunter as he punched the gas, ultimately running over the nightcrawler blocking our path. Their jaws were a mess of interlocking metal teeth, wired with exposed cables that sparked when they snapped. Their “eyes” were single, red lenses in the center of their heads. As one, the lenses tilted up toward us. “Oh,” I breathed. “Of course we get robo‑Cerberus.” “Company,” Grant said grimly. “Don’t stand still.” The first wave hit the base of the overpass, metal claws scraping concrete as they scrambled up the broken incline. Corvin stepped forward.

The golden manes were now shredded and in place stood a furless pale creature with red eyes and jagged teeth. Crawlers? That is what they reminded me of, A more animalistic version of Orion’s Crawlers. The creatures attempted to growl at me but instead of something deep and menacing, it was a screech that sent a shiver down my spine, piercing every single nerve ending and shaking my very core.

I squinted, trying to make out my surroundings, but it was too dark to see anything clearly. The ground beneath me cracked ominously as I shifted, and I almost fell again. Curious—and horrified—I reached down, my fingers brushing against something smooth and cold. I brought it closer, trying to make it out in the shadows, and then froze as the shape became clear—a human skull, empty sockets staring back at me. A scream tore from my throat as I dropped it, the bone shattering as it landed on what felt like an endless layer of bones beneath me.

“Fran!” I didn’t notice I’d lowered the beam a few inches, just enough for the foul thing to crawl up to the ceiling toward me. Kujo’s warning made me look up again, in time to see it pulling from an old light fixture right above my head. The damn thing was fast and strong, and it tore the fixture off in a single yank, while I still tried to figure out what it was doing. I was hardly able to jump to the side to dodge it. The fixture crashed on the floor, the noise echoing all over the tunnels. The crawler growled, angry he’d missed me, but took the distraction to jump to the open door and run away. “Go, Kujo!” I cried. “Go help Gina!”

It took me a long time to get him alone in there, and as soon as I thought about leaving him alone, he would get angry and turn around. "Come on, honey," I said, lowering my head to kiss him on the cheek. "Just for a little while." "Gollum." He turned and licked my chin, shrugged his shoulders, and lay down. "WHOO!" He didn't forget to turn his head to remind me. "Just a minute." "Normal bones, no deformities." "The brain is fully developed, at least for now..." "Huh? What's this?" On the screen, large shadows appear on the back and caudal vertebrae.

Neo’s POV Sitting at my desk, my mind is consumed by the image of Skyler, completely engulfed in those Scarabs she fondly referred to. It's astonishing how she fearlessly caressed them, treating them as harmless creatures, before they obediently scurried away from her and disappeared into the earth. It's as if they hold no threat, no potential for danger or death. This scene continues to play in my mind, leaving me both fascinated and perplexed by Skyler's unwavering trust in these seemingly treacherous insects.

The vibration traveled through the slag, settling deep in my bones. Citadel Crawlers. Brain shut down. Body moved. Instinct, honed by a decade of being the smallest thing in a world of monsters, snapped my limbs into action. I shoved the coil into my satchel and threw myself off the mound, sliding down the slope of trash into the shadow of a colossal, rusted turbine engine. The turbine was a corpse from the Before, half-buried in the earth like the skeleton of a metal whale. I squeezed through a gap in the fan blades. Jagged metal bit into my jacket.

Suddenly, the Nightcrawler begins to jerk within my grasps, its body twitching aggressively as I loosen my grip in surprise, causing my hold to unlatch from around it. The Nightcrawler clutches its head in a craze, its pointed nails digging into its own flesh as it writhes on the floor in what appears to be burning agony. Its eyes begin to bulge unnaturalistically, protruding from its skull as tar-like blood begins to drip down from its cavern-like nose while the creature splutters for air before completely collapsing down onto the ground, halting still as its cry dies along with its outburst of energy. In one last motion, the Nightcrawler inhales heavily; its veiny chest deflating staggerin

At my command, we surged forward, recognizing the growl of a night crawler. At last, we found them. Now, we make them pay. These creatures were the embodiment of our worst nightmares. They possessed speed and strength beyond our comprehension, their fangs sharp enough to slice through flesh as effortlessly as a knife through butter. Fear was a luxury we couldn’t afford; we were warriors, and we confronted them head-on. Our transformation was swift, manifesting in a blur of fur and fangs. The first crawler that dared to leap at us was swiftly torn asunder, its life extinguished in a crimson spray.
