He barely understood the concept of bending truth. “It was really late,” he continued, voice steady despite the way his fingers fidgeted with the camera strap. “I couldn’t sleep. My insomnia has gotten out of control lately, I fear. So I take walks. Sometimes I think I hallucinate from lack of sleep… but I wasn’t that night. I was wide awake. Completely.” Lizzie looked like she was about to pass out. Her face had drained of color, pale as the marble floors of this godforsaken manor.

Two Weeks Later The apartment is dead silent, save for the steady hum of the refrigerator. For two full weeks, I exist in a liminal space of heavy, dreamless sleep and waking numbness. I exist entirely in oversized sweatpants, watching the shadows shift across my bedroom ceiling while playing the last year of my life on a torturous loop.

Dominik Sleep deprivation is a slow-acting poison. It corrodes the edges of my vision and fills my joints with lead. Four days of relentless adrenaline have carved hollows under my eyes, leaving me operating on pure, mechanical instinct. Sunlight bleeds through the heavy drapes of the master suite, casting long shadows across the Persian rug. Sitting at the small writing desk in the corner, Eve is already awake. She fell asleep, not long after and I was left with my thoughts. I settled down on the bed to rest my aching joints but not long after, I heard a buzzing sound and I lazily swatted at my ear. Pesky mosquitoes won't let one be, even with the air-conditioning on. I settled into a more comfortable position but just as I was dozing off, I heard someone groaning. I jerked awake with a start and I realised I had drifted off to sleep. Someone was shaking me but I couldn't see who because the room was swarthed in darkness. I switched on the bedside lamp and the soft glow illuminated the room, leaving certain parts in shadow.

Alex woke from a nap that barely qualified as sleep. It felt more like he had closed his eyes for a few seconds and reopened them to the same weight pressing on his chest. The penthouse was too quiet. Not the peaceful kind, this was hollow, echoing, wrong. Lily’s absence wasn’t just visible; it was audible. Every room carried it.

Daven said "No, i have made you wait too long already. (sighs) Daven i have been having sleepless nights...each day i dream about horrible things and i don't know what it is. Saturday arrived quietly. No alarms. No corporate floor humming to life outside his windows. Just the early light coming pale and unhurried through the glass and Jade lying on her stomach beside him with her hair spread dark across the pillow and her breathing slow and even and her face completely unguarded in sleep in a way that made him lie still for longer than he had lain still in years, simply watching her exist without the composure she wore like a second skin in every waking hour. He had not slept well. He had not expected to.
