I had thought that it would burn me – taking a peek at the two women who were with me, they were back away from the fire, Leah patted the small flame that got on her pants, Lyv helping her put it out. I could still feel the heat, but what was odd was that the flames didn’t burn me. I lowered my hands slowly, looking at the book – now burning yet the pages were intact. My heart beat fast as I walked back to the podium. I blink, there was something new. I blinked again. I rubbed it, feeling the sting I had felt when Leah brought me to Neverwhere.

I became a bit better after I wore a pair of gloves and warm thick slacks with the shirt. As I strode back to the bed, my eyes caught the view of steady fire from the hearth. A line I had vaguely seen in a book while I hurriedly riffled through its pages popped into my head - ‘burning as the flames of the furnace, triggering an absurd color of the skin; a tickling effect in the layers of the flesh, popping the veins out― demons-bane’.

With a gentle hug, I put the book down and immediately left for work. At 5:30 I was behind the shop waiting for my employers. I began to think about what happened last night. I was contemplating how a small book could increase in size by itself. The book could talk and give instructions for humans to follow. What amazed me more was the fact that fire of blood could rest in a bowl and the book didn’t burn but when I put my hand I was burning that I could even felt the fire even in my intestines.

The fire in the library had burned low, casting long amber shadows across the walls. Sloane sat curled on the velvet sofa, her sketchbook closed in her lap. She hadn’t touched it since the mirror shattered. Her fingers ached to draw, but the lines inside her wouldn’t settle.

"Then you will admit you want me. Or it all stops." I whimper. This fucking asshole. I won't. No, I won't give him the words. He's taken enough from me, more than he even realizes. Then he begins to slow down, and my eyes, that I had not even realized were still closed all this time, because what does it matter in the dark, fly open, because he can't possibly be about to stop, right? "Please," I gasp out before I can stop myself. I can feel the fire dulling, constricting, and I can't let it. Not when my body had to go through so much pain for it.

I questioned. “Warm.” He uttered with a frown. “Warm like toasty warm or warm like its going to singe your skin off warm?” I asked and waited while he edged his own fingers into the flames without saying a word. I held my breath and froze, absolutely terrified as his fingers dipped inside the flames while a look of amazement spread across his face. “Warm like, wow.” He uttered as he slowly twirled his fingers inside the dancing flames across my hand before turning his hand and pressing it against mine. “Does that hurt?” He questioned eyeing me and I felt the tingles race through my arm at the contact, I could feel the cold but not like it had been before, like an ice-cold lemonade on a hot s

The flames blazed on, intense and untamed, burning bright against the white landscape. I had no idea what else to do, but I kept piling snow onto her, desperate to quench the flames that seemed unstoppable. Finally, after a minute that felt like a lifetime, the fire sputtered out. Scarlett lay there, her body still and vulnerable. Her skin glowed faintly, as if some otherworldly energy had just released her, and after a few heartbeats, she began to stir, slowly coming back to herself.

Heat surged through me, blooming in my chest and creeping slowly into my cheeks as I shifted in my seat, subtly clenching my thighs together. A low buzz vibrated through my body, ignited by the words in the book I held. The tension in my limbs made it nearly impossible to sit still. Every page felt like fire, and I devoured the words faster than I ever had before. It was like my eyes were starved, and the book was a feast—rich, decadent, indulgent.
