I’m definitely not going to class now. I go outside to the smoke pit and search around my back pack for the pack of cigarettes I keep in there for emergencies. I stopped smoking almost a year ago but I still need one occasionally. I figure one cigarette every few weeks isn’t the end of the world and there are a lot worse things I could be doing to alleviate stress. I fish out a cigarette and my lighter and quickly take a drag, and when I exhale I look up and see Axle watching me from a few feet away with his own cigarette between his fingers. I roll my eyes. Of course he's here right now.

Jace snatched the pack from my hand. "Give that back!" I scowled darkly. "Smokin isn't healthy during pregnancy. You want a healthy baby." "Colton doesn't look like he wants this baby." I could feel my blood boil now, especially with the cigarette out of my hand and Jace was now smoking it.

I frowned immediately. “Smokers are liable to die young,” I said bluntly. There was no teasing in my voice. I stared at him in disbelief. “You realize,” I said slowly, crossing my arms again, “that I can’t exactly open my eyes and discover that my partner in crime, the man helping me take revenge, has died of lung failure halfway through the job.”

I walk through the house and out to the front porch to smoke in peace. I light one up and as soon as I take the first drag, I hear someone walk out and say, “Smoking is bad for you, you know.” Of course it’s Cade. I snort and look up just as he’s pulling out a pack of cigarettes and say, “It’s just as bad for you as it is for me.” I turn around to lean my back against the railing and look over at him.
