His own suit, though well-fitted, could not hide the subtle tremor in his movements.
He bowed slightly to show a deference laced with unease.
"Well," the boss drawled, voice thick with amusement, tapping his pipe against the ashtray.
"Look what the storm dragged in."
The man stood straighter, meeting the dark eyes of the boss, but there was something in those, scrutinizing eyes that made his confidence shake.
"You did well," the boss continued, his tone almost casual, but still with that hint of something mysterious, hiding underneath the shadow.
