It is not snowing at the moment, yet the entire surroundings remain covered in a thin layer of snow. We continue our journey. After hours of traversing uneven paths and frozen stretches of land, something finally captures my full attention. Before us lies a wide, expansive grassland nestled perfectly between two towering mountains. Even under the faint dusting of snow, I can see the strength of the land beneath. The field stretches out openly while the mountains rise proudly on both sides. Their massive forms create a barrier against harsh winds. A thin mist wraps around their peaks, adding to the majestic vibes of the place.

Only those attuned to the roots of magic could navigate it. The deeper we went, the more tangible the darkness became. It wasn’t just the absence of light; it was a feeling that clung to the soul. The trees whispered in forgotten tongues. Shadows moved without wind. The snow-covered ground gave way to frost-covered grass—tall, blade-like stalks that shimmered and swayed as though dancing to an invisible song. It was called Whispergrass, a rare kind that reacted to magic. Whenever dark energy surged nearby, the grass would ripple in warning, even without a breeze.

Thirteen hunches beside me, clenching her ribs as she sniffles. "Hey," I whisper to her. "Look at the grass." She shakes her head. "I don't care for grass." "You haven't seen grass like this." At the Unfortunate camp, the grass is a pale green and only exists in random patches of spiky blades. Out here, it's a vast wonderland of beautiful, soft greenery. "If you just look up a little, you'll see—"

He found Rhea crouched on the floor and he tapped her on the shoulder. “I’m sorry,” Xavier grunted. “If that makes you feel any better.” “It’s not about making me feel better,” Rhea frowned. And then she pointed at the ground. “Have a look.” Xavier crouched down low to see what she was talking about and he saw huge footprints in the snow. “What is that?” Xavier frowned staring at the footprints. “Not sure what it is,” Rhea shrugged. “But it’s almost everywhere. I might have an idea though but I pray it’s not what I think it is.”

Upon a grassy steppe and beneath the clear gray sky, there sat a small community. In fact, it could hardly still be called a 'community' at all; for all of three tiny houses now sat entirely unoccupied, save for the fourth, which hardly saw use anymore. The grassy terrain bordered along a shelf of gravel which led to sand, which led to a large reservoir of fresh water that had yet to turn fully into ice, though nearly all of the ground now lay covered in a fine sheet of snow.

“Can I skate on the pool?” Harrison's lips parted but no words came out. “Can you skate on the pool?” He repeated, not hiding his speechlessness. “Yes. It's iced now. It should work as an ice rink, shouldn't it?” Harrison chuckled softly and went to stand under the snow falling. He bent down, picked up a ball of snow and threw it at Alyssa. Alyssa gasped. “Oh no, you didn't!” Harrison shrugged his shoulders, a playful smirk on his face.

Canines clash, claws slash through the air, and guttural growls echo off the walls. My heart becomes rowdier as Snow grapples with her opponent, our determination burning bright. The surge of power that comes with my transformation escalates. Squall continues to fight fiercely beside Snow. He, with a powerful swipe of his claws, incapacitates one of the attackers, leaving the enemy whimpering on the floor. Meanwhile, Snow gains the upper hand against the brown wolf, her teeth sinking into her enemy’s shoulder.

Yaslyn looked at the overgrown weeds and swallowed hard. "What's so good about this?" asked Xoan. Yaslyn was about to reply when she sneezed loudly. "I told you, isn't it cold? Roaming around in December's weather suits you." Xoan always spoke indifferently, but Yaslyn had long been accustomed to it. She examined the withered plants in the yard and suddenly exclaimed excitedly, "That's wheatgrass!" "What wheatgrass?" "Wheatgrass. It's a medicinal ingredient that can strengthen the body after consumption."

At that moment, when Harrison looked towards me, I suddenly raised my hand and, using the standard throwing stance, hurled the snowball I had prepared straight at him. With a loud thud, the snowball hit its target perfectly. “Yessss!” I clenched my fist and cheered for myself, laughing. "Oh, you want to play a game with me, Kayla?" Harrison raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips as he crouched down in the snow, his gaze sharp like a lurking snow leopard. "Uh..." Facing Harrison's overwhelming presence, I felt a bit intimidated. But before I could decide whether to surrender or not, a snowball came flying towards me.

One time, after a particularly grueling spar where Snow knocked me flat on my back, again! I sat up, panting lightly but grinning. "Snow… tell me something." Her blue eyes flicked to me, her tail swishing as she lay lazily on the grass. "What is it now? Another attempt to call me adorable?"
