___ Selene’s POV The dim candlelight flickered against the old parchment as Selene traced her fingers over the delicate pages of the book Ronan’s mother had given her. The scent of aged paper filled the air, mingling with the subtle hint of burning wax. She had spent hours pouring over the text, meticulously taking notes on anything that seemed remotely useful. The book contained knowledge lost to time, secrets about the origins of their kind, forgotten magic, and hidden weaknesses that could turn the tide of war.

Theo reached for her hand, not possessively, just to steady it. “Then we don’t stop,” he said. “Not until we find the truth.” She nodded. The house groaned faintly above them. Sloane turned back to the book, but it had already begun to fade. The pencil marks blurred. The page turned yellow around the edges. The words dissolved as if they’d never existed. She looked at Theo. “I think we’re being timed.”

"How did it come to this? Brian, James, my boys… Don't go, don't leave me all alone." She whispered to no one, her usual concern for appearances gone, her hair wild, looking every bit the madwoman. The brotherly betrayal had hit her hard. I was not about to offer comfort. James would face the music, and his mother... I could not forgive her, but I would not lift a finger against her either. She had already been handed the harshest sentence, after all. Dawn's light began to climb. I narrowed my eyes against the glow. It was time to start the hunt for my own, for the real life that was out there waiting for me.

Emilia remained silent while sitting beside the fire. After a long pause, Ken finally gathered the courage to break the silence. His voice was tinged with a mixture of regret and concern as he uttered his next words. "Look, I am sorry. He was not even scared we were almost caught. “How are you calm?” “They are called stolen moments for this reason. The adrenaline, the zeal and anticipation should feel like this.”
