But then, through the tempest, a new sensation began to register. Solidity. Warmth. Something solid and unmoving was beneath her, an anchor in the churning chaos. Her hazy awareness clung to it, a desperate survivor finding a piece of wreckage. The fire still burned hot in her veins, but it no longer threatened to consume her entirely.
