I frown, thinking on how familiar the male's voice was, searching my mind for where I might have heard it before. "Tonight," The Strange man continues, shrouded in the covering of his cape. "We have new commerades, as well as not so new Counsellors who will mold our new recruits into our way of life. We have lost many over the last year." A heavy pause as others glance at each other, or still others grumble around me and I can't help observe the hatred in their eyes. Where the hell had I taken myself to? "This time around, we will take nothing for granted." The stranger bellows, throwing off his hood in the process and I gasp, taking a step back.

He smirked and I swatted his hand away. "Are you sure you're not a greenhorn anymore cause I think you still are. Your holy pretty Veronica happens to be Ella, the stripper." He yelled and I stopped right on my track. Don't listen to him, he's lying. I heard my subconscious say but I turned and rushed straight to him, dragging him by the collar and lifting him from the stool. "What nonsense did you just say?"

“Him who?” Rowan swallowed. “The one they called Rida,” Rowan whispered. “The man who walked into a war like it was nothing.” Mrs. Hale stiffened. “Rowan.” “I saw him once,” Rowan continued, breathing unevenly. “Just once. Everyone scattered when he showed up; no shouting, no threats, just… presence. He's like death but wearing skin.” The stranger shifted weakly. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he murmured.

He glared at the stranger. Zenos solemnly stared at the boy who they had both rolled around in the sheet last night, to think that the boy did not remember everything he said and did, annoyed and pained him even if they just met last night, and it was a one-night stand. Hayden's mouth turns dry, and shivers run through his spine with the cold tone the stranger uses to talk to him. Just two words sent chills down Hayden's spine, but his boiling anger isn't giving him any chances to show fragility.

I wonder if he felt it. "No big deal." I guess he didn't. I give him a meek smile before moving up the aisle. I want to wait for him, continue talking to him, when I realize I don't even know his name and he never asked mine. I'm such a daft cow. Bloody hell. Here I am thinking there's some beautiful connection to this stranger I met by happenstance on a plane, when in actuality, he was just being nice, effectively making the time fly by.

Didn't know I was going to explain to her. "Ava, did you hear me?" she said when she realized that I was lost. "Oh yeah, I heard all you said," I replied with a smile. She was like the only family I had. I needed to let her know what was going on. "I am getting married soon to a stranger," I said in a cold and calm voice "What? Why are your parents so heartless?" she said angrily, knowing fully well that my parents were the ones who arranged the marriage. Just then, Clara Wilson walked in. "Oh! You are here telling people about your useless life."

I said. “Where? Should I drive you?” he asked. I snapped my head at him. “Why? You're bored and looking for a plaything to pass the time with?” I asked harshly. His brows creased. “What?” “Listen, Aaron, you don't like me, I get it, stop confusing me. One minute you're nice, the next minute you're shouting at me. Sometimes you make me feel like we are buddies and other times, you remind me that we are nothing but strangers to each other”

It pulled like a chain, sharp and unbroken. But the cloak, the blood… it made the bond ache like a wound. Amaiya watched the chaos with that same cold smile. She wanted this. She wanted us to tear each other apart. Then, before Serena could answer Rowan, the great doors slammed open. A stranger walked in. He was tall, scar across his cheek, hair dark with streaks of gray. His shoulders carried the weight of long battles. His eyes burned like someone who had seen too much war and lived to hate it.

And one—one felt like a promise. We reached a narrow pass between two ridges as night began to fall. The stranger slowed, scanning the rocks. “This is as far as I go tonight.” Seren frowned. “Why?” “Because this place listens,” he said simply. “And if I stay, it’ll hear me.” He turned to me then, and there was something almost human in his eyes for the first time. “You’ll see more tonight. Don’t trust what feels perfect.” And then he was gone, vanishing into the shadows like he’d never been there at all.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. Now shut your mouth. Unless you don’t want the night to end pleasantly for you.” The man held up his hands in surrender. “Hey man. I didn’t mean anything by it.” “You damn right.” The corners of Palmer’s eyes dropped as he sent a menacing look at the dark haired stranger. “Okay, I’ll leave you alone. Better be good at keeping her safe then you are at hiding your feelings for her,” The stranger said before strolling toward the front of the white painted steel and glass house and disappeared among the groups of people congregating around the house. Palmer’s heart pounded from the stranger’s words. Feelings? What feelings? The stranger was full of shit
