I took off as fast as I could! I ran for a couple of blocks at top speed before I heard the sound behind me. He must have shifted, Eckley was faster than Carson. He was gaining on me. Within another block, Eckley was right beside me. I glanced over. A massive gray wolf with streaks of black down his back was right beside me. He wasn't even running as fast as he could, I could tell from his body movements.

The beast before me did. It was huge and dark. When I say huge I mean at least tree or four hundred pounds of muscles, and when I say dark, I mean of the blackest black you can imagine. Most black wolves are not pure black, like me, but more of a deep dark grey. Pure black wolves would probably be a melanistic wolf. But the black of this wolf was much deeper than this. Black surfaces still have some refractivity. This wolf’s hair had none. It was like all light got sucked in, just like it would be in a black hole, which made his shape slightly indistinct. Peter's is a light redish brown with a black strip up his snout and a few black spots on his back. My wolf is jet black with pure white paws. Ansel's is the exact reverse of Mal. His wolf is pure white, but the tip of his tail and his ears are jet black. Every Alpha I know has a black wolf, and every Luna I know has a white wolf, this doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I do not have time to think about this right now. His feet are bright red. Not as surprising anymore but it is the same color of red as my fur once again. He also just so happens to be the one that has the fastest time though the course so far.

My wolf turned around so fast I almost got whiplash. After a brief moment of rustling clothes and then cracking bones, I turned to see a black wolf with fiery red eyes. When he said he was a warrior wolf, I did not understand that he meant just that. As I stared at the wolf with pitch-black fur and not a drop of colour mixed in, I knew he had not exaggerated. Wolves of this coloring were well known for their strength, just as wolves like Ana were known for carrying generational wisdom.
