When it was over, a massive black wolf stood where Kael had been. He was enormous - easily twice the size of any normal wolf. His fur was midnight black with silver threading through it, especially around his face and ears. But it was his eyes that made my breath catch. They were still Kael’s eyes, that same icy-gray color, looking out from the wolf’s face with unmistakable intelligence. The wolf - Kael - took a cautious step toward me. When I didn’t move away, he came closer, moving with fluid grace until he was standing just an arm’s length away.
