One rogue is still there, pawing at her neck with savage hunger, the others dead or scattered.
I don’t hesitate.
I lunge, claws out, slashing through fur and flesh. The rogue howls, but Theo finishes it—one sharp twist of its spine and it collapses, twitching.
Silence.
Then the faintest sound—Sonia’s breath, shallow, like paper tearing.
I kneel beside her. She’s pale, lips blue, eyes barely open.
Her gaze meets mine. “You… came.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
