Grayson was quiet. The song continued, other couples around them, the ordinary extraordinary in its persistence.
"Then we're just us," he said finally. "Boring. Uncertain. Maybe not enough." He kissed her forehead, brief, barely, the promise that didn't need witness. "But I'm still falling. Tomorrow. The next day. However long it takes to land."
"And if there's no landing? If it's just—" She stopped, the fear surfacing. "If it's just falling forever? If that's what love is, what my mother did, what I swore I'd never—"
