THE BURNT FACE LUNA
Sofia said quietly, using the name she'd called me since we were children stealing apples from the academy orchard, "there's something you need to understand before you decide anything."
I turned to her. "I'm listening."
She hesitated, and that alone told me the truth was going to be worse than I expected.
"Kyla," she said carefully, "is the one Wynona wants you to help escape."
For a moment, I genuinely thought I had misheard her.
"The Luna?" I asked slowly.
"Yes."
I laughed once, sharp and disbelieving, before I could stop myself. "Sofia, that is absurd. She is marked, mated, and visibly pregnant. You do not 'extract' a Luna like she's some tavern girl locked in a cellar."
