Luis asked trying to buy himself sometime after turning his gadgets on successfully. "He is my husband. Do you have a problem with that?" retorted the lady. "No, just asking. I thought we were doing Q&A" Luis replied nonchalantly. "Who else knows you are here?" the man questioned and Luis just stared at him with no intention of answering. "In an interrogation, there is something called, asking the right questions. This should have been the first question you should have asked me. But good you are getting it. Great job," Luis teased.

I need him to feel every single thing I give him, to know he's receiving something special, not just being fed on a schedule. Today, it's a question. I catch him near the yard entrance, his eyes already scanning for me. I ask him about his rotation, quiet, in his own language. My Spanish is getting better every week, a weapon I'm sharpening in secret. He doesn't know how good it's getting; I've been careful, only revealing a little at a time. "¿Cómo estuvo la noche?" (How was the night?) I ask, my voice low.

"¿Qué pasó? ¿Por qué regresaron?" What happened? Why did you come back? Miguel didn't answer immediately. He just got out of the truck, slammed the door harder than necessary, and walked around to stand beside me with his arms crossed. His wife looked between us with growing concern. "¿Está todo bien?" she asked. Is everything okay? "No," Miguel said flatly. "Nada está bien." Nothing is okay. I took a shaky breath, trying to gather what little Spanish I still remembered from high school, trying to organize my thoughts into words that would make sense.

He said, hostility clear in his gray eyes. "Is that why you yelled...." I paused as my brain did a reprocess of his sentence "It's my turn to drive?" I pointed to my chest. "Yes" He answered, his lips in a frowning line. I blinked at him and widened my eyes. "Yes?" "Si!" There was a strong tone in his voice, that made me jump a little on my seat before my eyes got wider in confusion. "I had to say the word 'yes' in Spanish since it's so hard for you to understand the english word" He replied my unasked question.

(So, why were you rude? Again, "Sí." (Yes.) He raised an eye brow, "¿Eres sordo? Te estoy haciendo una pregunta, señorita." (Are you deaf? I'm asking you a question, young lady.) "Sí." (Yes.) It seems as if he just realized that the sky is blue because his face looked like realization hit him hard. "Ah! ¡No puedes hablar español!" (Ah! You don't speak spanish!) I'm tired. Again, "Sí." (Yes.)

DEMETRIA “Mi princesa, ¿estás ocupada?” (My princess, are you busy?) my father asked as soon as I picked up his call. “No, Papá, I just took a break from the kitchen. I’m in my office now.” I responded, leaning back in my chair, rubbing my temples lightly. “¿Cómo estás, hija mía?” (How are you, my daughter?) “Estoy bien, Papá, ¿y tú?” (I'm fine, Dad, and you?)

Mr. De Leon winked at me and went back to his formal sitting position, which was close to the big window. Jace was looking at me like I was a new car brand. "My goodness me, you have been hearing all the awful things I've been saying?" she questions again with sadness hooked to her face, and her dark lavender eyes turned bright color. With a bright smile, I reply. " Si"

Oh shit! "¿Cómo es posible?" Silas asked, his voice low, a rapid-fire Spanish spilling out of him like blood from a fresh cut. "¿Me sigues hasta aquí? ¿Después de todo este tiempo? Creí que estabas en Brasil, pudriéndote en esa miseria." (How is this possible? You follow me here? After all this time? I thought you were in Brazil, rotting in that misery.)
