Oh, I forgot to introduce myself, I’m Skyler, the girl who stutters through small talk, who hides behind oversized hoodies and thick glasses because words always tangle in my throat when real people are around. But, after reading what’s on the cover of this book, I feel my hope starting to rise because this book promises to fix my problem. “Ancient incantations for confidence and connection.” The cover said. I’ve never actually been a fan of occult, but I may as well try, just this once. There are lots of people I’d like to talk to…. I want to be able to talk to the cute barista without my face burning up. Or maybe… more. I want to stand up to Selena and her minions.

Clara’s book. It wasn’t large, bound in dark leather, the edges frayed, the scent of age and ash clinging to it. I’d hidden it under my robe, heart racing though my face had stayed calm. No one saw. No one ever did. That night, I read until my eyes burned. It was more than words. It was power written in symbols and old tongue, the kind of language that lived between breath and thought. It was written “the mother's voice.” on the front cover of the book.

But I knew some hill folk—especially a hoodoo man named Clive Hartley—who could read Latin, so I put it aside for later. I looked back into the box and of course, that’s when I found it. The book that’s caused all this trouble. The Way of Ah-Tzenul. Course, that’s not what’s printed on the cover. There’s a picture of some sorta tribal man squatting down with both hands raised to the sky etched into the cover and traced in silver. Otherwise, it’s a plain-looking book, all bound in pebbly black leather.

Hera looked at the old worn-out book, which turned brown due to its lack of use. Just with a single glance, one can tell that the book is sacred and important. It has some scripts and drawings on its cover. Something is written on the book cover in a foreign language and they guessed that it must be the language of the Shadows. "What is this language? None of us read this book" Hera pointed out. Leo, Logan and Isaac frowned. They are now standing in Isaac's office in the Black moon pack. They came for the book.

"Time of Darkness, excellent choice." She had a calm voice say from behind her and she almost jumped in her skin. She should have been used to this by now. They moved really quickly and their steps were usually silent. The intruder was right in front of her in an instant. Delice. Something twinkled in her eyes as her they roamed the book cover. "They were dark times indeed." Zezi looked at the cover, it was just a black hardcover with 'Time of Darkness' written in a large zig-zag red font.

Sounds good. Wish I could join you.... Then I get a quick shot of the cover. What on earth's she reading? Tipping back her book to see the jacket, it's a bright splash of cartoon figures against a gentian blue sky. Smiley faced men and women frolic with a dog in front of a kids' classic 'first house drawing': a square box, with a triangle of a roof and a window in each corner. I peer at the blurb on the back.... "A few weeks ago, it was finite element analysis and Fourier series. Now you're reading chick-lit?"

I nod and look around. “Where is the book?” I ask. She wasn’t carrying anything when she entered the room. “I always carry it with me, you just can’t see it,” Shanna explains. She mutters a couple of strange words, holds out her hand, and a book appears and falls onto it. The cover is fine leather engraved with a vine-like design that swirls around the edges of a large picture. The picture depicts a woman standing with her arms stretched up above her head. Above her, there are stars in the sky and I swear I see one twinkle. Shanna opens to the first page and I am stunned to see a spell.

“Can you not read the title?” I looked at the cover of the book. But I knew that was not the title for I could see the make-shift cover, hiding it. I did that too. “Yes, but I am asking about the real title.” “You have good eyes.” She took off the make shift cover, and now I could read the real name of the book. It was “One Hundred Ways To Kill A Liar.” And I was lying to her. “It is a forbidden book, so don’t tell.” What she said was more of a command or a warning.

“This holds all the answers, El. Well – we think it does, anyway. If this is right – if what it says in here is true – then I think I know what kind of supernatural entity we’re dealing with.” “And you decided not to lead with that?” I asked, somewhere between aghast and amused. He gave an embarrassed half-shrug, his eyes dropping to the book’s worn cover. It was bound in a faded blue cover, and it looked as though it had been well thumbed over the years. There were corners that had been dog-eared, folded over to mark the reader’s place, and there was a large ring-shaped coffee stain on the front cover. “Sorry,” he muttered. “Uncanny.” She commented, as she looked at the book and scan the cover, which weirdly enough does not have any synopsis like any other book genre out there. Covered with the pattern of the gloom and dark with the title engraved in a pattern using gold ink. Its resemblance is pretty much centers like a religious book, yet is not. For anything else, the lady in blue is screaming her very own familiarity towards her, as it looks and speaks like. “Me.”
