“I don’t care to hear excuses.” I snarled, “We’re performing the spell on the mortal tomorrow. I’ll contact Solana tonight and let her know. Make sure she’s ready, Azrael.”
Hatred rushed through me, forcing me to grit my teeth. It wasn’t for the mortal, but for myself. A tomb of guilt and regret, sealed by whispering flames, that I would never again open.
“Very well,” He sighed.
Late that night, after I told Solana of our plans, Azrael returned to my room with eyes glazed and a drunken stride that told me he’d been drinking some of Hemlock’s nectar.
