That’s why, even before the banquet had ended, he had come looking for her. Sora’s expression didn’t change. Still smiling, she spoke gently, “Why wouldn’t I smile? Reid, what’s wrong? Did I do something to upset you?” She had always known how to lower herself in front of him—how to please him. But today, the more Reid looked at her smiling face, the more violently the fire in his chest roared.

I smiled as we both shook each other’s hand. Spencer and I had a longer conversation after that but I was already feeling flushed and fuzzy that I don’t remember anything following that approach. Jordan heard Maya take a deep breath when she saw their son. “Hello, Spencer,” the judge greeted warmly with a smile. “Do you still remember me?” Spencer looked towards the camera where his nanny is pointing at and let out a wide grin. He raised a hand and waved a bit. “You came here and gave me this plane!” He answered enthusiastically, waving it in the air. “Hi, mommy! Hi, daddy!” Jordan smiled at his son’s greeting and his heart ache at the thought of what he will be going through a few minutes from now.

Spencer wore a cold look. The tailored suit with a handmade cashmere coat set off his charm and exuded his handsomeness. An attendant was helping him remove his coat. He lowered his head and smiled at the woman beside him. His icy presence melted with that warm smile. All colors seemed to pale in comparison to its might. Ariana thought she had sorted out her emotions after more than half a month apart. Her heart still ached at seeing Spencer smile at another woman. Her thoughts were driven into turmoil.

“This is what I actually need. Thanks for always being there for me.” Reid leaned against the bike and rested his gaze on me the same way he rested his weight on the bike. “As your best friend, I can't bear it seeing that you are sad. You should always smile and I will make sure there's always a smile on your face.” I let out a small but tired laugh. “Easier said than done. Let's see how you will do that.” Reid shrugged and chuckled. “It's easy, I’ll just keep reminding you to smile every time you are not smiling. And I won't stop until you do.”

The kind that suggested he knew something I didn’t. “What?” I asked sharply. “You don’t have to.” I stared at him. “What does that even mean?” His smile widened slightly. “You don’t have to handle it.” Confusion replaced some of the panic. “What are you talking about?” Without answering, Spencer reached into his suit jacket and pulled out his phone. A few taps later, he turned the screen toward me.
