Small bits of blue blood seeped out of the wound as the spider fell away to the side. Jack continued forward. The other spiders hissed their disapproval and skittered after them.

I start to climb down, gripping the cloth rope with everything I have. Don’t look up, I tell myself. *Don’t look up.* But I do. He’s there. Peering out the window, knife in hand.
