It hit the ground in front of them with a heavy impact, its massive body settling low as its legs spread outward, each one ending in hooked points that dug into the webbed floor. As Zayla’s mom swooped down toward the ground, her magnificent wings unfurled like dark sails. With a fierce motion, she snatched another demon from the air, her long, sharp black talons slicing through the thick air. After the remnants burned away into nothingness, she pursued more foes, leaving a trail of much-needed destruction in her wake.

Her dark eyes take in the room without a flicker of concern. She looks at Irena, tangled in vines, and at Malindra, caught in the demon's hand. “Let them go. Valeria pulls back her magic, and the demon hand sinks into the floor, letting Malindra drop to her knees. She'd let herself get hit without fighting back, but the moment Jasper was in danger, she jumped to protect him. The three of them crashed together in a chaotic tangle. David stood off to the side, completely dumbfounded. "Come at me instead! Don't touch Jasper!" Mom screamed. There was no way Mom could stand up to Dad.
