It was not alone, several werewolves leaped out, staggering, and started to run across the yard, only to be brought down shrieking by Mercy and Verina.
Fine silken strands drifted out the open window. Meguitte reached out a hand and several wrapped around her fingers. Tiny spiders dangled from the silk. “Interesting,” Meguitte extended her hand and blew across her palm, dislodging them to drift out over the garden. The sunlight caught in hundreds of tiny sailors setting out into the great wide world. “Spider rain.”
“Ah, Meguitte, my dear,” Connery called from within, his tone deliberately casual, but the tension beneath making a lie of it.
