I start walking towards her with the intention of covering her with the blankets, but as soon as I take a step my boot steps on something on the floor, causing me to almost trip and fall. I look down to see what I've stepped on and see two pill bottles lying around. I bend down and pick them up. They are empty. I look at the label on both bottles. One says Ambien on one and Xanax on the other. My heart leaps out of my chest and I feel a knot in my stomach. One is for sleep and the other for anxiety.

Selene hovered close, the silver in her magic flickering at her fingertips. Mirra’s eyes went distant as she listened. After a moment, her mouth tightened. “It anchored something.” Ronan’s blood cooled. “Anchored what?” Mirra lifted her hand. On her palm, a faint smear of dark residue clung like oil, except it didn’t shine. It absorbed light. Selene sucked in a breath. “That’s not from here.” “No,” Mirra agreed. Chapter One Hundred Twenty Clement remained expressionless when mentioning the scars on his father's wrists. It wasn't because his father brought it up or told him about it; rather, Clement accidentally caught a glimpse of them during dinner.
