“Big wolf…?” Jayden scrambled to his feet and clambered onto the bed beside me. He shoved the paper into my hands. On it was a crude drawing of a large dark wolf with golden eyes standing beside a tiny stick figure with curly hair. My chest clenched painfully. “That’s me,” Jayden said proudly, pointing at the stick figure. “And that’s big wolf. He’s protecting me from the bad wolves.” Conan cleared his throat softly. When I looked up, he was staring at the drawing, his expression guarded. His hand flexed on his knee before he looked away.

He was Jeremy Lennon, high commander of the Grey Wolf armies, and he’d made it his life’s work to be outplayed by no one. Anticipating her next move, he leaped from the bushes, tackling her. They rolled in a tangle of legs, teeth, and limbs until Jeremy came out on top, pinning her underneath him by biting onto the scruff of her neck as if she were no more than a pup. In wolf form, he outweighed her by at least fifty pounds and was nearly twice her size. Dragging her by the scruff, he pulled her back into the bushes with him and into hiding.

That flat, burning yellow I’ve seen in the dark too many times—eyes that don’t reflect fear, only hunger.

he thundered again. My body began to tremble, bones shifting, skin rippling. I wasn’t in control. Within seconds, my wolf had taken over. She didn’t hesitate. With a snarl, she leapt forward and landed on the Alpha’s lifeless chest. Her claws dug into his ribcage, and with a grotesque crack, she tore into him. Heat pulsed beneath the bones. The Heartstone glowed with an eerie, red ancient light. She clamped her jaws around it and ripped it free.

Curiously, he gets closer, finding the drawing of a wolf. A frown aches on his face as he looks at the drawing, realizing it’s not a kind of wolf he’s seen before. Its frame is massive, towering over anything he has ever compared it to, or perhaps it is because it’s on the pages of a book. Its fur is pitch black, and its eyes are the darkest shade of red and hollow; they look like they can pierce anything, yet the redness of those eyes looks familiar, like he’s seen them before, but he immediately dismisses the idea. Its mouth is open, stretched far too wide with a row of long teeth and fangs, and with weird patterns on its body, glistening in the sketch as though the artist has seen it in p

Collins asked but there was no response from the Vampires. Collins ducked the claw attack of the second figure using his own claws to strike the second figure down, With one massive strike of his claws, the second figure head could be seen rolling on the floor. " Who's next? " Collins asked.

He flipped to the last page where I’d made a very unflattering drawing of him, one with horns and long knife like fangs. I’d been particularly upset that day and had written some pretty shitty things about him, calling him all sorts of names under the sun. He paused over the page, taking it all in and I shifted on my feet, embarrassed now that he’d seen my shit talking about him. He glanced at me with a raised brow. “Really?” “Well I told you not to look!” I said defensively rubbing the back of my neck, color alighting my cheeks. Archer craned his neck over Ivan’s shoulder to peer at the page. Seeing the drawing, he burst into laughter.

I lay on the gas, make a couple jumps and I’m close enough. I raise the gun back up and line up my sights when I see something beyond the rogue. It’s a territory marker. Shit. We’ve reached the pack lands. I can’t risk the shot now. My only hope is to keep chasing him in case he turns back and gives me another chance. Maybe I can turn him around if I get a good enough angle on him. I’d be screwed if one of my shots ended up hitting one of the pack wolves. Normal tranquilizers won’t do anything but these are special. Made specifically to knock out the wolf side and put the human side to sleep. No wolf means no extra strength, speed, or increased healing capabilities. Much easier to work with
