Mike elbowed Alina to stop but she gave him a half shrug and continue praising Ashley "Psycho isn't the best word but you sound a little bit related to it... In a good way." I really need to lie down, because this place was starting to creep me out. I didn’t know where to go, and the whole place was deserted, with four buildings standing in the vast compound out front. I couldn’t see anything else. There was a small cubicle out front, looking harmless. I could get help there. I dragged my luggage towards the said cubicle, and as I was to walk in, I missed a step, as my toe hit the rock. I found myself half-flying, and half screaming, as I stumbled forward. A pair of strong hands held me tightly, before I could make a fool of myself.

Marcus wheezed, “Oh my God. She said dada.” “Twenty-seven,” Daniel cackled. “She’s twenty-seven and just said her first word!” I groaned. Inside and out. I tried to curse Daniel out. I tried to call him a toad-faced flea magnet. But nothing else came out. Nyxara, ever the menace, chuckled in my head. “See? You’re doing this on purpose.” I rolled my eyes and stomped away before I could hurl someone…or something…off the actual balcony. Ten minutes later, the Three Stooges came bursting into my room like boyband rejects.

“Be kind to her.” The stallions regarded her with wary eyes, their ears flicking back. Penelope hesitated, unsure of what to do until Thanion nudged her gently forward. Tentatively, she reached out to Nyx, her hand trembling slightly. The stallion’s tension melted as her palm brushed his muzzle, and he let out a soft huff, nuzzling her hand. The other two followed suit, their suspicion replaced by a strange, quiet acceptance.

I saw through his disappointed face that it was empty. The second stall followed, the metal door slamming against the divider with a hollow clang. Empty again!! By the third, my breathing had grown shallow. Each latch snapping open felt like a countdown I didn’t want to reach the end of. Nothing again? My chest tightened painfully, He reached the last stall. For a split second, the room went utterly silent, no hum of lights, no distant airport noise. Just the sound of my own pulse roaring in my ears. I prayed she would be in their last stall.

I returned to my office, made myself a cup of coffee, and waited. It didn't even take ten minutes before someone came knocking. The first to come in was, surprisingly, Layla. She clutched a USB drive so tightly her knuckles turned white. As soon as she stepped inside, she dropped to her knees. "I'm sorry, Ms. Cooper. I'm so, so sorry. I must've been out of my mind!" She cried, burying her face in one hand, while holding out the USB drive with the other. "Everything's in here—every chat log where Keira planned how to blow this up step by step and force you to give in!
