Those world-building details are where the real crossover magic happens for me. A good plot makes you re-think the rules of both settings.

But honestly, I think the real crossover magnets are the ones with a little moral ambiguity or a special skill set that fits both worlds. Garrus and a Mandalorian debating tactical approaches? Endless material. Miranda Lawson's genetic perfection clashing with Jedi ideals about attachment? You see it a lot.

What surprises me is how often Thane Krios gets woven in. His spiritual nature, the whole 'siha' concept, and his profession as an assassin make him a natural bridge to Sith philosophies or shadowy Force cults. It’s less about raw power and more about finding that thematic overlap—the characters who feel like they could have been born in the other universe.

Honestly, checking the crossover collections on AO3 sorted by 'Date Updated' is probably the most reliable method I’ve found. I have a saved search that filters for both fandoms and excludes certain tags I’m not into, like major character death.

Sometimes, though, the real interesting stuff gets buried in the 'Star Wars' or 'Mass Effect' tag itself because authors might not tag the other fandom perfectly.
