Starting with the fried ravioli and mozzarella sticks because dammit, I’m a cheese addict. At one point—somewhere between the spinach dip and our supreme deep dish pizza arriving—Salvatore frowns at something over my shoulder. Then he barks something—in Russian, I think—before returning to his own plate. “What was that about?” He shrugs it off. “Just needed to remind my men to keep their eyes to themselves.” I playfully waggle a brow. “Ooh. They gettin’ flirty with the waitress?” “No. I don’t pay them to ogle you.”

I said again, trying to usher him away from the kitchen. Salvatore nodded, his eyes still fixed on me. "I will," he said, his voice low and smooth. “I'm looking forward to tasting whatsoever you're cooking” “Yeah, sure” I smiled, as I watched Salvatore leave the kitchen. I let out a sigh, feeling a little relieved, and turned back to my cooking, my heart still racing from the encounter. It was a little surprising, because Salvatore wasn't usually like this. Unlike him, he was extremely nice today and I wondered why. What exactly was happening?

My head turned, and my smile just spread, my heart nervously hammering. “Our beautiful Lethu.” Salvatore said, pulling me right into a hug as if I was his favorite little sister. I closed my eyes and nearly sighed as he took me into his large chest. The resemblance between them was there but not so obvious. Salvatore was taller, buffer and larger. He looked less dangerous but more into the billionaire CEO vibes. His cologne, just insanely good and he was so warm. I wanted to drown in those arms. “Are they bothering you? Don’t let them coerce you into anything.” He continued as I pulled back, grinning like an idiot. His smile was something else. The man would sell even shit and I would buy.

Good. Salvatore raised a glass in greeting, his usual smirk in place. “You look like you’re about to murder someone, Adriano.” I exhaled sharply, grabbing a drink from the passing waiter. “Not yet.” He chuckled, leaning in slightly. “That’s a shame. Could’ve used some entertainment.”

Liam asked, his voice cutting through the revelry. Startled from his reverie, Salvatore blinked and forced a half-smile, though the light in his eyes dimmed slightly. “Nah, man. You guys go ahead. I just need to hit the restroom first.” Liam raised an eyebrow but shrugged, dismissing Salvatore's reluctance. “Your loss, buddy.”

Spade shoved his hands in his pocket as he looked at Salvatore, narrowing his eyes at the man. But fire was bubbling in my chest. “Be careful, Mr Salvatore,” I said calmly. “You’re walking a very thin line.” He finally looked back at me. That was the moment I realized he wasn’t just testing me. He was challenging me. “No need to worry, Mr De Vito,” he said smoothly. “I know where the line is.” And then he smiled. It was a small smile. Polite. Perfect. But it didn’t reach his eyes. It was the kind of smile men wore before they unsheathed the blade.
